Rider Requirements:

  • Motorcycle endorsement holder (permit is not acceptable) with experience riding on public roads.

  • Rider should be in good health and able to endure several hours on bike each day.

  • Rider should possess basic off-road riding skills: rear brake usage, body positioning, clutch/throttle control, foot peg weighting, etc. Required skill level may vary somewhat depending on tour choice.

Recommended Riding Gear:

These items may just help you have a more comfortable and, in turn, more enjoyable ride:

  • Gore Tex over socks: There are quite a few river crossings and even more mud puddles on our DS tours.   These over socks are worth their weight in gold when you have to put your foot down in a mud puddle or rushing creek 30 minutes into a 7-hour ride (on a 50 degree day).

  • Neck Buff or similar: We love these neck tubes that keep bugs, dirt and UV rays off of our necks and faces.

Personal Motorcycle Requirements:

If you are renting a bike from us, please review the MOTORCYCLE RENTALS tab above.   If you plan to ride your own bike on a tour, please read carefully.  Be sure to perform necessary maintenance (brakes, battery, oil, air filter, tires, etc.) and test ride your bike well before the tour so you have time to sort out any issues that may arise.  Feel free to contact MotoVermont for bike-specific tire and equipment recommendations.

All bikes must be fully street-legal, registered and insured.  Riders must hold a valid driver's license with current motorcycle endorsement. Bike size limitations may apply on certain tours.

  • Condition:  Starts/runs reliably, good brakes, stock/quiet exhaust, functional lights.

  • Tires:  Should be off-road ready (Dunlop D606, Continental TKC 80, etc) and have good tread.

  • Safety:  Rearview mirror(s), horn, turn signals, brake light, headlight and tail light- all functional.

  • Bike protection:   Bike should be equipped with engine, hand and radiator guards.

  • Tools:   Rider should carry any tools that pertain to that specific bike, especially axle wrench and spark plug socket.  Rider should carry extra tube and/or patch kit.
